Sunday 23 June
Today we went to vist Hof Palace, out of Vienna. This was a beautiful palace with mostly original furnishings, dating back many centuries. It had a very interesting history.
The weather was absolutely perfect, hot with blue skies. After wegot back to Peter andElphi's we decided to go for aswim in the local lake. What a beautiful little slice of paradise- at least on a hot Sunday afternoon.
This lake which is only a stones throw from Peter and Elphi's is completely surrounded by houses, so you have to know somebody to access the lake via their property. Fortunately Peter and Elphi know everybody!!!
After a beautiful swim it was off to a local Heuriger for dinner. Heurigers are basically farmhouses, where for a few weeks every year, the farmer is allowed to sell his own produce withmeals. Generally good, large meals and wines at avery reasonable price.
Monday 24 June
Today with Elphi having to work (teacher at local school), Peter was given the task of chief tour guide. Unfortunately theperfect weather which we had enjoyed on Saturday and Sunday could not be maintained. it was cold andwet. Nevertheless, we decided to venture into Vienna to see many of the historic buildings etc. Visited St Stephens church, and Catacombs, as well as he imperial palace amongst others.
Really beautiful city, just a pity it was so wet which limited our exploring.
Tuesday 25 th June
Time to leave Vienna. We were a little concerned at our ability to fit all the luggage into the smaller car we ended up with. We had some contingency plans to remove one of the rear seats, but that would have been a real inconvenience for Phil whenhereturnsthevehicle intwo weeks.( the rest ofus are continuing on to Italy). Fortunately with some good spatial manipulationwe fitted the luggage in although it is a little cosy!
So we set of for Zakopane in Poland, via Slovakia.
An absolutely beautifuldrive, particularly once we startedto get into the mountains. We haveonly had a little look around Zakopane sofar, but what apretty spot. It would be absolute majic in winter for skiing etc.
Tomorrow we spend some more time exploring and walking in Zakopane and the hills around.
